mesopelagic zone
The Mesopelagic zone, or twilight zone, is called this because it is in the middle of sunlight and midnight. It is slightly light, but not enough penetrates through for photosynthesis to occur. This zone goes down about 3,300 ft, and you suddenly see how it's darker then sunlight! Most of the fish that live here have thin bodies, and this is what they use for their "camouflage." This is the zone where some fish use BIOLUMINESCENCE, using special organs in their bodies called photophores. Enjoy these pictures of life from the zone!
